Virginia is my home.  But more than that, it is a state of contrasts.  From the Blue Ridge Mountains in the west to the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic beaches on the east coast, there are a variety of sights and activities to keep one busy and entertained year round.
This section begins with a look at the birds in my backyard.  It's living proof that you don't have to travel far to witness nature in action.  From the beautiful songbirds, to the woodpeckers, hawks and waterbirds--there is always something going on here.  All you have to do is sit back and observe the motion around you, which I frequently do from my deck.  I witness the changing of the seasons by watching new birds and their activity.  I know spring is near when I see the first bluebirds and robins, and I eagerly watch as they build their nests and feed their offspring.
Which brings me to the next section--the seasons!  It's miraculous to watch nature at work as each season unfolds with it a unique beauty of its own.  Sure, one can't miss a field of bright, sunny daffodils in the spring, but what about observing those same spring bulbs as they first peak above the soil line, with their promise of warmer, longer days ahead when it's still freezing.  Finding the first hints of color in the trees means that soon those long, hot days of summer will fade into a pleasant, colorful autumn.
There are many interesting places to visit in Virginia, and I've only been to a few.  But since I live here now, I can add and edit this portion of the website to include new experiences in each of the areas I'm including.  So far, I've included in "Places" the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, Luray Caverns and an area near my home, the Bull Run Nature Conservancy.
