Oregon is a state that holds many beautiful surprises for the tourist!
Our journey started in southern Oregon at Crater Lake.  It was early June, and snow still covered much of the area due to the 7,000 ft. elevation.  While there, we took a day trip to the Lower Klamath National  Wildlife Refuge.  The number and species of birds was astounding.
From the sapphire waters of Crater Lake and the fragrant green forests around it, we ventured to a very different place, arid eastern Oregon, which shows off its volcanic past in the spectacular colored rocks of ancient lava flows and fossils of prehistoric plants and animals.  Passing quaint, old western-style towns built during the gold rush of the 1800's, this was a truly unique experience.
Shifting gears again, we viewed the majesty of Mt. Hood, where it is still possible to ski in June.  When we left the mountain, we toured the Columbia River Valley with its beautiful waterfalls.
Portland Gardens
As all trips come to an end, so did ours in Portland.  But not before we visited the beautiful city gardens. Roses and more roses!  And when you think you've seen it all, there are the Japanese Gardens, too.
