Picturesque villages, lighthouses,  rocky coastline, windjammer ships, puffins, moose, loons and lobsters (Oh! Those lobstahs!)
Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Mt. Desert Island and Machias Seal Island are all part of "Down East".  Sailboats nestle in cozy coves near picturesque villages.  Acadia National Park features dramatic seascapes with rocky, granite cliffs ending in deep, blue sea.   A surreal fog shrouded boat ride to Machias Seal Island halfway between Maine and Nova Scotia  rewarded us with viewing and photographing puffins in their own habitat.
My favorite moment at Moosehead Lake was stepping out of a wooded path at sunrise to view the most placid, tranquil lake with mist and sun rising as one and hearing, at that special moment, the eerie call of the loon. This was a special place, and we were going to have a great moose safari!
Our last week was spent in the Mid-Coast Region at a cottage in Lincolnville Beach, near Camden.  Peace and serenity surrounded us as we sat on the cottage's deck and contemplated the sea and rocky beach below.  We took a boatride to Monhegan Island, a remote island and artist colony, 10 miles south of Port Clyde.  Camden, with its beautiful harbor, and Rockland, with its windjammer ships, rounded out a superb week.
