Central America

So far, I have been fortunate to visit two Central American countries--Belize and Costa Rica. My first trip in the region was to Costa Rica. The diversity of plant and animal life is spectacular there. The rainforest is alive with sights and sounds that overwhelm the senses. The beaches, especially on the southern Pacific side, are wild and pristine. The cloud forests in the mountains are just as exciting as the rainforests, but offer totally different species of plants and animals. Although Costa Rica is a small country, there is much to see and many different habitats to visit.
Belize is a very small country but still has much to offer. It has a rich heritage of Maya, Garifuna, Creole, Mestizo and even Mennonite cultures. There is an extensive barrier reef offshore to explore by scuba diving or snorkeling. More rain forests and Maya ruins complete the portrait of this country.
